A pretty Napoleon III fireside slipper chair, with deep-buttoned back rest, luxurious yellow velvet upholstery and a plush sprung seat. Dating from around 1860-80, this gorgeous and very comfortable chair has its beautiful original ebonised turned legs on castors. The chair is supplied with a matching footstool in mahogany veneer, featuring a needlepoint tapestry panel in a peacock design on top. A fireside chair (or 'chauffeuse') such as this was traditionally made to be placed next to the fireplace, so that the user could be warm and comfortable on cold evenings.
