Description :
A superb French Louis XV period commode dating from the 18th century, beautifully crafted in warm-toned walnut and displaying the elegant, flowing lines characteristic of the period.
The commode features three generously proportioned drawers with gently shaped fronts, each richly embellished with finely carved scrolling foliage, rocaille motifs and shell-inspired ornamentation. The carved decoration continues along the shaped apron and front uprights, giving the piece an unusually decorative and sculptural presence. The sides are more restrained, with attractive molded panels that provide a pleasing contrast to the elaborate façade.
Each drawer retains handsome gilt-bronze handles and richly ornamented escutcheons, perfectly complementing the warm patina of the walnut. The drawers show traditional dovetailed construction, clearly visible in the photographs and consistent with period cabinetmaking techniques.
The commode stands on short, elegantly shaped feet terminating in carved scroll motifs. Its beautifully aged surface, minor marks, old traces of use and variations in color contribute to the authentic character and patina expected from an 18th-century piece.
With its generous width and particularly rich carved decoration, this impressive commode would make a striking statement in either a traditional or contemporary interior while remaining highly practical for storage.
