Description :
This charming 19th-century copper bed warmer features a circular pan and a long, dark wooden handle with a turned detail. Its warm copper tones contrast beautifully with the deeper colour of the wood, giving this traditional domestic object a strong decorative presence.
The hinged lid displays a central five-pointed star formed by fine punched decoration. Surrounding it, concentric rows of pierced hearts, quatrefoil shapes and oval openings create an attractive geometric composition. Delicate dotted borders complete the design, illustrating the care devoted to decorating an everyday household utensil. The handle is secured within a metal socket, while a riveted hinge allows the lid to lift open.
Originally intended to hold hot embers and be passed between the sheets before bedtime, this piece recalls the domestic traditions of earlier homes. Today, it would make an appealing wall display in a country kitchen, beside a fireplace or within a collection of antique copperware.
The copper shows surface scratches, dents, traces of oxidation and a small split along the edge of the lower pan. The interior retains pronounced marks from age and use. These features contribute to its rustic character. Offered as a decorative antique.
