19th Century French Giltwood Slipper Chair in Old Rose Velvet

A charming and highly decorative French slipper chair dating from the 19th-century, distinguished by its elegant giltwood frame and wonderfully warm old rose velvet upholstery. The chair has a particularly graceful silhouette, with a generously upholstered seat rising gently towards the centre and a small curved upholstered backrest supported by two slender, subtly shaped giltwood uprights.

The front legs are finely turned with ring details and retain their original metal castors, while the rear legs are delicately curved. Particularly attractive are the carved rosette terminals positioned at either end of the backrest, adding a refined neoclassical touch to the design.

The gilt surface has developed a beautiful aged patina, with areas of wear and variation that reveal the chair’s history and give it considerable character. The rich old rose / burnt orange velvet complements the warm tones of the gilding beautifully and is finished with a fine decorative passementerie trim.

An elegant occasional chair with wonderful proportions, equally suited to a bedroom, dressing room, sitting room or sophisticated interior where it could be used as both a functional seat and a decorative accent piece.
