Description :
This Louis XVI style oval wall mirror pairs a giltwood frame from the late nineteenth century with a later mirror plate. The outer molding is decorated with a ribbon that winds diagonally around a rounded profile. A broad, smooth gilt band separates it from the inner border, where groups of three small beads alternate with elongated motifs. The two borders follow the full curve of the oval, giving the frame a crisp, continuous outline.
The gilding has a warm tone, with brighter highlights on the raised details and deeper brown tones in the recesses. Small marks and local wear are visible along the edges of the frame. The later mirror plate gives a clear reflection and shows a few scattered surface marks.
The upright oval is especially well suited to a narrow entrance wall or the space above a small chest of drawers. Its warm gold finish complements painted furniture and dark wood, while the restrained ornament also works well above a simple contemporary console.
