Description :
An elegant pair of French silver-plated candlesticks by Morlot, dating from the 19th century and designed in the refined Louis XVI style. Each candlestick displays beautifully balanced neoclassical proportions, standing on a broad circular stepped base enhanced with delicate beaded detailing. The slender baluster-form stem is articulated with finely molded sections, giving the pair an elegant architectural quality typical of the Louis XVI aesthetic.
The upper section is particularly decorative, featuring a removable cut crystal drip tray surrounded by a fringe of faceted crystal drops. The elongated pendants catch and reflect the light beautifully, lending the candlesticks an almost chandelier-like appearance. An especially attractive and versatile feature is that the crystal decoration can be removed and replaced as desired, allowing the pair to be displayed either fully dressed with their sparkling pendants or in a simpler, more understated configuration.
The candlesticks bear the mark of the French silversmith Morlot. Combining the brilliance of silver plate with finely cut crystal, this handsome pair would make an elegant addition to a dining table, mantelpiece, console or sophisticated interior.
