Description :
An elegant French Napoleon III period armchair dating from the 19th century, crafted from carved and turned stained beechwood and distinguished by its particularly decorative lyre-shaped backrest.
The open back is centred by a beautifully shaped lyre motif, framed by slender turned spindles and surmounted by an arched crest rail. Delicate carved ornamentation appears throughout the chair, including beaded borders, fluted details, small floral motifs and decorative finials. The gently curved armrests are supported by finely turned uprights, while the front legs are joined by an elegant bowed stretcher, giving the chair a graceful and well-balanced silhouette.
The generously proportioned seat is upholstered in a cream-coloured floral fabric decorated in soft, muted shades of pink, burgundy, beige and green.
The warm brown patina of the stained beechwood, together with the subtle signs of age and use, gives the armchair considerable character while retaining its refined appearance. With its unusual musical lyre motif and elegant proportions, this decorative 19th-century French armchair would make a charming occasional chair, bedroom chair or distinctive accent piece in both traditional and more eclectic interiors.
