Description :
A charming French glazed ceramic wash basin dating from circa 1930, displaying a particularly attractive decorative scheme characteristic of the Art Deco period. The basin is finished in a warm cream-colored glaze and decorated around the exterior with a repeating pattern of stylized green flowers, black dots and delicate scrolling motifs. Fine geometric borders and molded vertical fluting complete the design, giving the piece both texture and a wonderfully graphic appearance.
Originally intended as a wash basin and traditionally used together with a water pitcher as part of a bedroom or bathroom wash set, the piece is equally appealing today as a decorative object. Its generous proportions make it particularly suitable as a centerpiece on a large dining or console table, a decorative bowl for flowers or seasonal arrangements, or even as an atmospheric display filled with water and floating candles.
The underside bears the painted mark “PRIMA.” Although the precise manufacturer has not been identified, the form and stylized decoration are consistent with the Art Deco period and suggest a date around the 1920s–1930s.
The basin remains in good antique condition overall, with wear and imperfections consistent with age and previous use. There are some surface marks, variations to the glaze and a noticeable area of glaze loss or damage to the interior, all clearly visible in the photographs. These imperfections have been left untouched and contribute to the authentic character of the piece.
