Description :
A charming French antique oak tambour filing cabinet dating from circa 1920, bearing the original brass plaque of Meubles SUPER, exclusively distributed by the Papeterie du Petit Marseillais in Marseille, France.
This elegant and practical piece of early 20th-century French office furniture features a beautifully grained oak exterior with a rich golden-brown patina, highlighting the natural character and texture of the wood.
The cabinet is fitted with a vertically sliding tambour shutter composed of narrow horizontal wooden slats, opening to reveal eight interior filing compartments. Each compartment features shaped wooden side supports, originally designed for organizing correspondence, documents, and office papers.
The upper section retains its decorative metal lock escutcheon, while a small wooden handle provides convenient access to the interior.
Of particular historical interest is the original brass plaque engraved “Meubles SUPER – Dépositaire Exclusif – Papeterie du Petit Marseillais.”
The Papeterie du Petit Marseillais was an established Marseille stationery business, historically documented during the early 20th century, notably on Rue Paradis. This original label provides an attractive connection to the commercial and industrial heritage of southern France.
The cabinet retains a beautiful aged patina, with minor scratches, surface marks, and signs of wear consistent with its age, particularly around the lower plinth.
Its tall, narrow proportions make it ideal for a home office, library, or living room, offering both practical storage and the distinctive charm of authentic French vintage office furniture.
