Description :
Elegant French Art Nouveau polychrome plaster sculpture dating from circa 1900, depicting a graceful young woman holding a red rose delicately against her chest.
Standing an impressive 74 cm (29.13 inches) tall, this charming sculpture beautifully captures the romantic spirit and decorative elegance of the Belle Époque.
The young woman wears a long, flowing emerald-green dress with slender shoulder straps and a fitted bodice. A contrasting light-green sash, tied into a large decorative bow at the waist, falls gracefully along the front of her gown. Her blonde hair is arranged in an elaborate upswept hairstyle, adorned with a matching green ribbon, while a delicate gold-coloured bracelet completes her refined appearance.
Her gently inclined head, lowered gaze and contemplative expression give the composition a particularly poetic and romantic character. The vivid red rose provides a striking contrast to the different shades of green, enhancing the sculpture’s visual appeal.
The figure stands beside a naturalistically modelled tree stump, whose textured surface contrasts beautifully with the flowing folds of her dress.
The carefully applied polychromy, combining vibrant greens, warm flesh tones, golden accents and deep red, is particularly characteristic of decorative sculpture produced during the Art Nouveau period.
The sculpture bears an incised signature on the base, which has not yet been conclusively identified.
A highly decorative and expressive example of French Belle Époque sculpture, ideal for collectors of Art Nouveau objects or as an elegant statement piece in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The sculpture retains its attractive polychrome finish, with some surface wear, small paint losses and minor imperfections consistent with age and use, as illustrated in the photographs.
