Description :
Elegant French Art Deco two-seater settee by Baumann, dating from circa 1920, featuring a beautifully curved beechwood frame and rich brown leather upholstery with a distinctive aged patina.
Manufactured by the renowned French furniture maker Baumann, celebrated for its expertise in bentwood furniture, this charming antique settee exemplifies the graceful transition from early 20th-century craftsmanship to the refined simplicity of the Art Deco movement.
The elegantly curved backrest extends into gently shaped armrests, creating a harmonious, enveloping silhouette. The stained beechwood frame features slender legs and beautifully arched supports beneath the seat, giving the piece an attractive architectural character and remarkable visual lightness.
The seat and backrest are covered in richly textured brown leather, displaying a beautiful natural patina with warm bronze undertones. Rows of decorative brass upholstery studs elegantly follow the contours of the leather, complementing the warm tones of the polished wood.
The settee has retained its original character, with no known alterations, and bears the Baumann manufacturer’s metal label beneath the seat.
In attractive antique condition, showing gentle wear and surface marks consistent with age and use, particularly on the wooden frame and the reverse of the backrest.
With its compact proportions, elegant curves and timeless appeal, this authentic French Baumann settee would make a sophisticated addition to an entrance hall, bedroom, private office or living room.
