Description :
A charming French tabletop dressing mirror in the Louis XV taste, dating from circa 1900 and distinguished by its richly modelled Rococo decoration. The frame appears to be made of gilt bronze or brass and is composed of an elegant arrangement of scrolling acanthus leaves, rocaille motifs and sinuous C-scrolls, creating the characteristic asymmetry and movement associated with the Louis XV style.
The shaped mirror plate is surrounded by an elaborate openwork frame surmounted by a prominent shell and foliate crest. Two decorative side supports descend gracefully towards a broad, finely cast base decorated with further scrolling foliage and shell motifs. Small ornamental handles or finials positioned on either side allow the mirror to pivot and its angle to be adjusted, making it both decorative and practical as a dressing or vanity mirror.
The reverse retains its deep red velvet backing, an attractive period detail. The warm, naturally aged gilt surface displays subtle variations and patina that enhance the relief of the cast decoration. The mirror presents beautifully and would make an elegant addition to a dressing table, vanity, console or decorative interior.
