Description :
An elegant French Louis XVI style chandelier dating to circa 1900, beautifully combining an architectural gilt and patinated metal frame with an exceptionally rich arrangement of faceted cut-glass beads and pendants.
The chandelier is designed around a circular frame embellished with finely cast gilt bronze or brass ornaments in the form of ribbon bows, trailing foliage and floral details, all characteristic of the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary. Three slender curved supports rise towards an ornate upper section, while graceful swags of faceted glass beads provide an additional decorative element above the main body.
The lower section forms a spectacular basket composed of numerous graduated strands of individually faceted transparent glass beads. These converge towards a richly decorated central gilt metal boss and finial, creating a particularly attractive radiating effect when viewed from below. Long faceted glass drops suspended around the perimeter provide further movement and sparkle.
The combination of aged gilt and darker patinated metal with clear faceted glass gives the chandelier considerable depth and character. Its elegant proportions make it particularly suitable for an entrance hall, bedroom, dressing room or smaller reception room.
A highly decorative French lighting piece retaining the charm and patina associated with turn-of-the-century interiors. The electrical fittings appear to have been adapted or renewed during the chandelier’s lifetime and should be checked by a qualified electrician before installation.
