Description :
An elegant French Restoration period rectangular coffee table, dating from the early 19th century and crafted in walnut and walnut veneer. The table is distinguished by its architectural lyre-form supports, a characteristic neoclassical motif particularly associated with furniture of the Empire and Restoration periods. Each pierced end support rests on a horizontal plinth terminating in turned feet, while a long turned stretcher connects the two bases and gives the table both stability and a particularly decorative profile.
The rectangular top has softly rounded corners and a finely veneered border, complemented by turned pendant ornaments beneath each corner. The warm walnut displays attractive variations in tone and grain, enhanced by a naturally aged surface and mellow patina.
The tabletop retains visible traces of its long history, including surface marks, small areas of wear and an age-related separation along the timber, all contributing to the authentic character of this antique piece. Its relatively low proportions make it particularly suitable today as a coffee or cocktail table, while its sculptural lyre-form base gives it a strong decorative presence.
