Description :
This large 19th-century oval mirror has a broad giltwood frame with four small floral motifs set at the top, bottom, and sides. Slender, leaf-like details follow the curve of the oval, drawing the eye from one flower to the next. A continuous row of raised beading borders the mirror glass, creating a fine inner outline that contrasts with the generous sweep of the surrounding molding.
The gilding varies from bright gold on the rounded surfaces to deeper brown tones along the outer edge and in the recesses. As the light changes, different parts of the floral decoration come into view. The frame shows fine cracks, rubbing, and small areas of gilding loss, particularly along the outer side, as shown in the close-up photographs.
At 31.50 inches high, the mirror has enough presence to anchor a hallway wall or sit comfortably above a chest of drawers or console table. Its oval shape softens the straight lines of the furniture beneath it, while the warm gold finish pairs particularly well with dark wood, painted furniture, or a simple plaster wall.
