Description :

This impressive large Chinese porcelain temple jar and cover, dating from the early 20th-century, is richly decorated with hand-painted dragons soaring amongst swirling clouds above stylized waves, traditional symbols of strength, prosperity, and protection in Chinese art. Executed in vibrant cobalt blue, green, iron-red, and soft pink enamels, the decoration is enhanced by four sculpted lion mask handles and a finely modelled mythical lion finial surmounting the domed cover.

The elegant baluster-shaped body is framed by decorative geometric borders at the neck and cover, creating a harmonious balance between architectural ornament and the lively movement of the dragons. Entirely hand-painted, the decoration displays subtle variations in brushwork that contribute to the individuality and character of the piece.

Notably substantial in both scale and construction, the porcelain body is exceptionally thick and remarkably heavy, reflecting the quality of its manufacture and impressive presence. The jar retains its original cover and presents beautifully as a statement decorative object, equally suited to traditional, eclectic, or contemporary interiors.

Chinese temple jars of this impressive scale have long been admired for their timeless decorative appeal. This example combines generous proportions, vibrant polychrome decoration, sculptural lion mask handles, and a beautifully balanced silhouette, making it an eye-catching addition to any collection of Asian decorative arts or sophisticated interior.

An impressive and highly decorative example of Chinese porcelain craftsmanship.
