An elegant French porcelain tea caddy or covered jar, beautifully hand-painted and richly decorated with colourful floral bouquets and gilt ornamentation. Dating from the mid-20th century, this decorative piece combines an unusual woven or basketweave-effect pattern with delicate polychrome flowers in shades of pink, purple, blue, yellow and orange.
The shaped body is decorated with an intricate trompe-l’œil interlaced design outlined in brown and gold, while the upper and lower borders feature charming hand-painted floral sprays. The shoulders are embellished with elaborate gilt scrollwork and stylised foliate motifs, giving the piece a refined appearance inspired by earlier French porcelain decoration. The removable circular cover repeats the basketweave motif and is surrounded by a further band of flowers.
The underside bears a handwritten French inscription reading approximately: “Dessiné et peint entièrement à la main par Le Tallec à Paris France,” indicating that the piece was entirely designed and hand-painted by Le Tallec in Paris. It also bears painted workshop marks.
