Description :
A charming French tinned copper cooking pot dating from the 19th century, retaining its original fitted lid and beautifully shaped brass handles. This traditional piece of French cookware has a rounded, generously proportioned body, formed in copper and finished with a warm surface that has developed considerable character through age and use.
The interior retains its traditional tin lining, clearly visible in the photographs, with areas of wear, oxidation and discoloration consistent with an authentic antique cooking vessel. Two substantial brass side handles are attached to the body, while the domed copper lid is fitted with a matching brass loop handle. The contrast between the warm reddish tones of the copper and the aged golden brass gives the piece considerable decorative appeal.
Fine horizontal working marks remain visible around the copper body, contributing to its handcrafted appearance. The surface displays expected signs of age and previous use, including small marks, scratches, variations in patina and wear to the tinning. These have been deliberately preserved as part of the pot’s history and authentic character.
Once an everyday utilitarian object, this antique French copper pot is now particularly attractive as a decorative kitchen piece, displayed on open shelving or incorporated into a collection of traditional European copperware.
