This exceptional pair of French patinated bronze urns is mounted on elegant polished black marble pedestals, creating a striking contrast between the warm bronze patina and the rich depth of the stone. Executed in the Renaissance Revival taste, the urns are lavishly decorated with finely cast mythological figures, winged cherubs, shells, garlands, and classical attributes arranged in beautifully sculpted high relief. Every angle reveals a different allegorical composition, demonstrating the remarkable quality of the casting and chasing.
The decorative vocabulary is strongly inspired by the celebrated Renaissance bronzes of Andrea Briosco, known as Riccio (1470–1532), whose ornamental vessels became highly influential during the 19th century.
