Description :
A beautiful pair of French bronze candlesticks dating from the Napoleon III Period, mid-19th century, featuring elegant proportions and finely worked details inspired by the Louis XV style.
Each candlestick rises from a substantial shaped and stepped base with a scalloped outline, supporting a tall and beautifully articulated stem. The stems are decorated with alternating faceted and deeply fluted sections, creating a graceful vertical rhythm and reflecting the light particularly well. Above, fluted candle cups are finished with shaped circular drip pans with delicately scalloped edges.
Made of solid bronze, the candlesticks have a substantial weight and a particularly pleasing quality when handled. The bronze has recently been carefully cleaned and polished, revealing its warm golden tone and giving the surface its present luminous appearance. Minor marks, variations and traces of age remain visible, consistent with their 19th-century origin and adding to their authentic antique character.
Elegant yet substantial, this handsome pair would make a striking addition to a mantelpiece, console table or dining table and works beautifully in both classical and more contemporary interiors.
