Description :
An elegant pair of 19th-century Louis XVI style chairs in carved and gilded wood, distinguished by their slender proportions and architectural openwork backs. Their neoclassical decoration combines fluted uprights, floral rosettes and small ornamental finials, creating a finely detailed yet visually light silhouette.
Each back features an arched upper rail above two slender central columns, forming three decorative openings. Below, a carved swag with pendant tassels brings a softer touch to the symmetrical composition. The rounded seat rails are enriched with a repeating leaf motif and rosette blocks above the front legs. Tapered, fluted front legs and gently swept rear legs complete the balanced design.
The padded seats are upholstered in a decorative woven fabric alternating terracotta stripes with ivory bands embellished with stylised floral motifs. Coordinating ornamental braid neatly finishes the edges, complementing the warm golden tones of the frames.
Small surface marks, fine cracks and areas of wear to the gilt finish contribute to their antique character. These chairs would make an attractive pair of occasional seats in a drawing room, bedroom or entrance hall, or placed on either side of a console table.
