An elegant pair of French silver-plated three-light candelabra by the celebrated Parisian silversmith Victor Saglier (1809–1894), dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880–1890.
Beautifully proportioned, each candelabrum features a tall fluted central stem rising from a finely shaped circular spreading base. Two gracefully curved arms extend from either side of the central candleholder, creating a balanced three-light composition. The restrained neoclassical decoration includes delicate crossed-ribbon details around the base and stem, adding refinement without overwhelming the elegant architectural form.
Victor Saglier was a distinguished French silversmith and metalworker active in Paris during the second half of the 19th century. His workshop produced high-quality silver and silver-plated decorative objects and later became particularly associated with the development of French Art Nouveau. His maker’s mark is traditionally identified by a three-masted sailing ship accompanied by the initials V and S.
The silver-plated surface has developed an attractive, gently aged patina, with traces of wear consistent with age and use, giving the pair considerable character and authenticity.
Their generous scale and beautifully sweeping silhouette make these candelabra particularly decorative. Displayed on a dining table, console, sideboard or mantelpiece, they create a sophisticated and distinctly French presence.
