Description :

A charming pair of glazed ceramic bowls by celebrated French ceramicist Robert Picault, produced in Vallauris circa 1960. Each bowl is hand-decorated in Picault’s distinctive graphic style, combining deep green and warm brown tones against a creamy white ground. Repeating geometric borders frame contrasting central bands: one decorated with expressive spirals and the other with a stylized Greek key motif.

Their bold, rhythmic ornamentation reflects the renewed interest in Mediterranean pottery that flourished in Vallauris during the post-war period. Entirely handmade, the two bowls display subtle differences in their decoration, lending each piece its own individual character while forming a harmonious pair. Both are signed “RP” beneath the base.

The bowls present irregularities and areas of glaze loss that may initially appear to be chips or accidental damage. These are in fact original kiln and firing flaws created during the manufacturing process, rather than later accidents. Such variations are inherent to handcrafted Vallauris ceramics and contribute to their authentic character.

Decorative and highly collectible, these bowls would make a striking addition to a collection of mid-century French ceramics or a colourful Mediterranean-inspired interior.

Dimensions, each: H 8.5 cm × Ø 15 cm / H 3.35 in × Ø 5.91
