Product Details

Description :

Charming mid-20th-century ceramic bowl or cup with its matching saucer, designed by celebrated French ceramicist Robert Picault in Vallauris. Both pieces feature Picault’s highly recognizable geometric decoration, hand-painted in rich shades of green, turquoise, brown and off-white beneath a glossy glaze.

The flared bowl is decorated inside and out with rhythmic bands of zigzags, crosses and oval motifs, while the circular saucer displays a complementary arrangement of geometric patterns surrounding a plain central reserve. The lively brushwork and subtle variations in the glaze emphasize the handcrafted character of the set. Each piece bears the artist’s distinctive “RP” monogram on the underside.

Robert Picault worked in Vallauris during the golden age of French modern ceramics and was closely associated with many influential artists and ceramicists of the period, including Pablo Picasso. His functional tableware is particularly appreciated for its bold Mediterranean palette and timeless graphic designs.

A delightful decorative and collectible set, perfect for adding an authentic touch of French mid-century style to a table, cabinet or open shelf. Minor irregularities and signs of age are consistent with handmade vintage ceramics.
