Description :
Charming French ceramic egg cup with its matching saucer, created by Robert Picault in Vallauris, on the French Riviera, circa 1960. The ensemble features the artist’s distinctive geometric decoration, combining a rich emerald-green glaze with white bands, a checkered pattern and warm brown accents. The small cup is securely attached to the center of the saucer, forming a practical and beautifully balanced breakfast piece.
Robert Picault was an important figure in the postwar revival of Vallauris pottery and worked alongside several celebrated ceramic artists, including Pablo Picasso. His designs are particularly admired for their bold graphic patterns, Mediterranean palette and appealing handmade character.
The underside bears Picault’s painted “RP” monogram. Variations in the glaze, decoration and surface are inherent to the artisanal production and give the piece its individual character. This collectible ceramic ensemble would make a delightful addition to a collection of French mid-century pottery or a colorful decorative accent in a kitchen or dining room. Good vintage condition with light signs of age and use consistent with its history.
