Description :
Charming French ceramic two-handled cup created by Robert Picault in Vallauris, South of France, circa 1960. This distinctive piece features the celebrated ceramicist’s instantly recognizable geometric decoration, hand-painted in rich emerald green and warm brown against a creamy white ground. A repeating pattern of radiating floral or sunburst motifs encircles the rounded body, framed by bold green outlines and small triangular details.
The two generously proportioned loop handles give the cup a balanced, sculptural appearance while making it comfortable to hold. The lightly glazed cream interior provides an elegant contrast to the lively exterior decoration. Entirely hand-decorated, the piece displays subtle variations in the glaze, brushwork and surface that reflect its artisanal production and give it its unique character.
The underside bears Robert Picault’s painted “RP” monogram. Both decorative and functional, this attractive cup could be used as a bouillon cup, displayed as part of a collection of Vallauris pottery, or placed on a table as a colorful decorative accent. It remains in good vintage condition, with minor irregularities and traces of age consistent with handmade ceramic ware.
