Description :
This charming mid-20th century lidded faience tureen was created by the renowned Vallauris ceramic artist Robert Picault. Handcrafted and decorated in his unmistakable style, it features bold stylized fish painted in vibrant cobalt blue and turquoise green against a creamy white glazed background. The lively marine motif is beautifully balanced by concentric blue and turquoise rings decorating the lid, creating a fresh Mediterranean aesthetic that has become synonymous with Picault’s celebrated workshop.
The tureen is fitted with two practical side handles and its original matching lid. The hand-painted decoration differs slightly from one side to the other, highlighting the individuality of this handmade piece. The underside bears the characteristic handwritten “RP Vallauris” signature, confirming its authenticity.
Whether displayed as part of a collection of Vallauris ceramics or used as a decorative serving piece, this tureen embodies the joyful spirit and artistic freedom of French post-war pottery. It will complement both modern and traditional interiors and makes an excellent addition for collectors of Robert Picault, Vallauris pottery, or mid-century French ceramics.
The piece remains in very good vintage condition with only light signs of age and use consistent with its period. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed view of its condition.
