A striking mid-20th-century French ceramic pitcher by Robert Picault, the celebrated Vallauris ceramicist known for his bold geometric designs and distinctive Mediterranean palette. Handcrafted in glazed earthenware, this decorative jug features a generous rounded body, a slender neck, a flared rim with a shaped pouring spout, and an elegant loop handle.
The cream-colored ground is richly decorated in deep cobalt blue with alternating bands of triangles and Greek key motifs. These rhythmic patterns emphasize the pitcher’s sculptural form and give it a fresh, graphic character that remains remarkably contemporary. The hand-painted decoration, subtle variations in the glaze, and visible potter’s wheel marks lend the piece the individual charm associated with artisan ceramics.
