Description :
A remarkable antique handcrafted pearwood model of a three-masted sailing ship, dating to circa 1890.
Beautifully constructed and exceptionally decorative, this late 19th-century maritime model displays an impressive degree of craftsmanship throughout. The finely shaped wooden hull has acquired a warm and attractive patina, while the three tall masts support an extraordinarily elaborate arrangement of hand-tied rigging, rope ladders, yards, blocks and tackle.
Particular attention has been given to the deck and nautical fittings. Numerous miniature pulleys and blocks surround the masts, while small metal anchors, detailed railings, deck gratings and carefully constructed architectural elements add considerable character. The long bowsprit and beautifully worked stern further emphasize the elegant proportions of the vessel.
The model is presented on a shaped wooden cradle, allowing the sculptural lines of the hull to remain fully visible. Its absence of sails also gives particular prominence to the complex rigging and creates a striking, almost architectural silhouette.
With its generous dimensions and wonderfully aged appearance, this circa 1890 ship model would make an impressive decorative statement in a library, study, living room or coastal interior, while also appealing to collectors of maritime antiques and nautical objects.
