Description :
This elegant set of twelve hand-painted French faience dinner plates, dating from the mid-20th century, circa 1940–1960, is decorated in the traditional Moustiers style and belongs to the charming “Cléry” model. Each plate features a finely detailed exotic bird painted by hand at the center, depicted in graceful motion among delicate branches and berries. The vivid palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, golden ochre, green, and soft plum tones creates a lively and refined composition inspired by classic French decorative arts.
The scalloped borders are richly ornamented with delicate floral motifs and stylized decorative cartouches, characteristic of the timeless Moustiers aesthetic. The combination of the soft ivory ground, flowing shapes, and colorful hand-painted decoration gives the set an elegant yet joyful presence, ideal for both sophisticated table settings and decorative display.
Marked “Cléry, Hand Painted, France” on the reverse, each piece was individually painted by hand, resulting in subtle variations that enhance the authenticity and artisanal character of the service. The bird decorations evoke the poetic naturalism traditionally associated with fine French faience from the South of France.
Both decorative and functional, this beautiful set would complement a French country interior, a Provençal-inspired home, or an eclectic table setting with timeless charm and color.
Presented in very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use.
