Description :
An elegant French ceramic vase dating from the 19th century, distinguished by its striking deep cobalt blue and olive green glazed decoration and finely detailed gilt bronze mounts. The tall baluster-shaped body rises from a circular gilt bronze base and features a beautiful contrast of colors, with rich cobalt blue tones gradually meeting the olive green glaze around the rounded shoulders and neck.
The vase is particularly notable for its elaborate gilt bronze ornamentation. A pierced band of finely modeled oak leaves encircles the upper body, while graceful garlands of foliage are suspended below, creating an attractive classical decorative rhythm. Additional gilt bronze detailing surrounds the rim and the circular base, emphasizing the elegant proportions of the piece.
The combination of richly colored glazed ceramic and finely worked gilt bronze is characteristic of the sophisticated decorative arts produced in France during the Napoleon III period, in the mid-19th century, drawing inspiration from the Louis XVI and Neoclassical traditions.
A highly decorative piece with considerable presence, this vase would display beautifully on a console, mantel, pedestal or as part of a collection of 19th-century French decorative objects. The vase was formerly adapted as a lamp, and a small opening remains in the gilt bronze base from the previous wiring. It has since been returned to its decorative function as a vase. Minor signs of age and use are consistent with its antique character.
